BWI has been selected “Nonprofit of the Month” by Bellwether Alliance. With this honor, Bellwether and its thousands of members will support awareness of and contributions to our organization. Our Board Treasurer, Paula Jo Miller, was invited to present about BWI at their spring conference in Mobile, Alabama. We are thrilled to announce that Bellwether has contributed almost $5,000 to support our programming! We are so grateful for Bellwether’s support. Please visit the Bellwether Alliance website to learn more about this wonderful organization.

OUR MISSION

Beyond Words International offers healing opportunities through arts initiatives and psychosocial support.

VISION

Beyond Words International (BWI) works with global communities to support and offer healing opportunities to displaced people (e.g. refugees, asylum seekers) through the arts and psychosocial support. Because the arts are proven to be a powerful tool for stress relief, trauma recovery, and positive expression, we partner with artists, therapists and those working in their communities to provide healing arts workshops and opportunities for nonverbal expression.

Current and Past Projects

  • Teaching healing art and dance to 150 refugee children in Thermopylae, Greece
  • Providing humanitarian aid and arts activities to asylum seeker children in the Matamoros encampment on the U.S./Mexico Border
  • Creating the Women Without Barriers Etsy Shop to promote the work of refugee and asylum seeker artists who are part of the Irida Women’s Center community in Thessaloniki, Greece

Our Values

BWI is committed to:

  • Building genuine partnerships with community-based organizations that share our mission and values.
  • Creating a collaborative and equitable relationship with our partner organizations.
  • Being transparent to our donors, partners, and supporters.
  • Supporting projects that are community-based, measurable, and sustainable.
  • Prioritizing an awareness of the impact of power and privilege in all we see and do, as individuals and an organization, and take responsibility for the ways this shapes our efforts and our impact.
